冬，即 “终也、万物收藏也”，万物在冬季闭藏，冬季是享受丰收、休养生息的季节。 冬至刚过，即将迎来一年中最冷的时节。
无论是“外边雪花飘飘，屋里短袖雪糕”的北方还是“取暖全靠抖”的南方，冬天都有不同的体验！最近不少地区降雪降温，一起来学习与冬天有关的英语知识吧~

冬季节气
- SOLAR TERM-
冬季的节气有六个，分别是：立冬（Start of Winter）、小雪（Minor Snow）、大雪（Major Snow）、冬至（Winter Solstice）、小寒（Minor Cold）、大寒（Major Cold）。立冬是冬季的开始，大寒则是冬季的结束。
On the day of the Winter Solstice, northern Chinese traditionally have the habit of eating dumplings.

thermal 的意思是热的；热量的；保热的，我们所说的温泉就是 thermal spring。

electric的意思是电的；电动的；带电的，这里指的是用电发热，就比如：

heating 暖气
北方朋友们挺住！心心念念的暖气来了，冬天能过下去了。暖气的英语是heating，也可以说heat。
Old people often try to economize on heating, thus endangering their health.
老年人常常想方设法节约用暖气，结果损害了他们的健康。

他不断地调低中央暖气系统的温度。

寒冷的冬天，怎么能错过火锅呢！火锅的英语大家都知道是hot pot，各种火锅类型英语有：
soup pot 清汤锅 spicy hot pot 麻辣锅
double-flavor hot pot 鸳鸯锅
mushroom soup pot 菌汤锅
butter hot pot 牛油锅
In the winter, I want to eat hot pot with my parents because it's very delicious.
冬天，我想和父母一起吃火锅，因为它很美味。
It is a very delightful experience to eat hotpot in the cold winter.

- RELATED SLANG-
break the ice字面翻译就是“破冰”，更准确地意思则 是“打破僵局，打破沉默；使气氛活跃”。
Complimenting someone on their garment is also a great way tobreak the ice.
赞美别人的衣服也是打破沉默的好办法。
on thin ice并非字面意思“滑冰”，真正的解释是 “如履薄冰；冒险”。
You're skating on thin icebyalways coming in late.
你总是上班迟到，这个情况对你很不好。
snow job指试图说服某人做某事或相信某事，但事实并非如此。准确意思是“花言巧语；谎话”。
John gave her a snow jobon what he was doing.
在她面前，约翰把他从事的工作吹得天花乱坠。
snowed under字面意思是“被雪压在下面”， 其实也指“被工作压得喘不过气；忙得不可开交”。
I'd love to come but I'm completely snowed underatthe moment.
我很想来，但我现在忙得不可开交。
